HIGHHEELSPOKERTOUR MAKING WOMEN’S PRESENCE KNOWN
AT THE WSOP
The Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas.
June 9th , 2010

Ft. Lauderdale, FL (April 8, 2010) – The High Heels Poker Tour (HHPT) will be hosting the first ever hospitality suite devoted specifically to women's poker during the WSOP Ladies week June 9th-11th. During the three days HHPT along with other female focused poker companies and organizations will be catering to the women who come to the WSOP; located in Brasila 5 at the RIO Hotel and Suites in Las Vegas. Women will be able to come and interact with the HHPTA Poker Pros, relax and enjoy refreshments, network with other players, and explore some of the corporations and organizations that cater to or are owned by women . Some of the organizations and corporations participating are; PMS PokerWear.com, PokerJetsetter.com, Card Player Cruises, Susie Isaacs books and products, Pink Ladies PT and others.

The hospitality suite will be open from 10am-10pm for the three days and is complimentary. It will be closed to the public on June 10th until 5pm when the HighHeelsPokerTour Academy will be offering their annual Ladies Academy in preparation for the $1,000 Ladies Event held the following day at the RIO.

This is the first time an organization has focused on the women who play poker during poker’s most prestigious event season. Women are the fastest growing poker demographic and are ready to be heard, seen, and respected as a force to be reckoned with in the poker community.

Along with the HHPT Hospitality Suite and Academy, the HHPT is running 2 tournaments for the women during Ladies Week both being held @ The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino: June 10th @ 7 pm, $125 buy-in sit-n-go extravaganza to win a seat to the $1,000 Ladies Event on June 11th @ The RIO, and June 12th both HHPT and Pink Ladies Poker Tour are co-sponsoring a ladies event together.

The spring schedule is jam packed with events all over the United States. In April, HHPT will be heading to The Silks Poker Room in Tampa, FL on April 24th. Florida up until 2003 rarely saw women at the tables. Back then, in many mainstream tournaments and live action games, women represented approximately 5% of the field but today in 2009, that number has nearly doubled. Now, when you walk into a card room in Florida, women represent approximately 10-15%. I do find myself, when I walk into a card room counting heads just to make sure that women get enough credit for being there. When speaking to women across Florida, the opinion I am given constantly for this increase is the influence of televised poker and women’s only events. The WPT, WSOP and the HPT have highlighted women players more than ever before. In addition, women who once were playing in their pajamas in front of the computer are now coming into casinos, slowly but surely and with more confidence. It has been mentioned that at one time, 40% of the online poker players were women and initially I thought that was a staggering number. Just recently, I have begun to fully understand why and what the attraction is. I personally am not a big fan of online poker and have my reservations; I am a visual player and like the human interaction of being able to see that person in front of me, which allows me to make certain decisions. Women who play online poker are full time moms, have fulltime jobs and have children at home or just want to utilize this medium to build confidence. For others it is a learning tool and is used as a stepping stone. Many women, unknown to the live market have made a career right in their living room by playing online poker. There is anonymity about it and for some women a way of expressing their true self without “putting it all out there”.
In Florida (especially South Florida), many card room managers have been very receptive to the idea of women’s only tournaments to increase their numbers. They know that the women who play, overall, have such a varying range of knowledge and skill sets, that woman’s only events are a positive step into mainstreaming a new female player and are quick to make sure that the women are treated equally. I sometimes think the card room staffs spend extra time making sure that the women are not on the receiving end of nasty or negative comments. I have always believed that across the east coast the women are here and they do want to play, but the key is finding them, getting them off the computer (for a little while), once you do, you have got a player for life. Women are loyal and will always come back to the places that treated them the best.

Trials and Tribulations of being a women in the poker world

Trials and Tribulations of being a women in the poker world

I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the impact and strides that women are making in the poker world. We all know that there is a inequity when it comes to reporting on, writing about and sponsoring women who play professional poker. I have found that when female poker players have other intrests or have exciting professions away from the felt, it attracts more attention and that's what gets them the coverage, not their abiltiy to play the game. Why when 10 guys sit around a table it's news? Who knows but I would love for more attention to be paid to women's only tournaments because this is where you will see some of the next up and coming fantastic players. I can say, with much happiness that women this year, (2008) have definity gotten more exposure for their play, then in year's past. As the gap between quantity vs. quality and the numbers of men and women at the tables close, this year's (2009)World Series will see an increase in women playing more of both touraments and cash games. In addition, there will be an increase all over Vegas and around the country. I encourage women interested in poker or who play poker to go onto websites like ladypokersharks (www.ladypokersharks.com) and see what's out there. Many websites like the pokersharks promote everything poker and women who play. They discuss the trials and tribulations, kudos, blogging and ladies poker news. Websites like lady poker sharks are a great resource and you'll never know who you might find blogging away. In closing, I hope that if you are reading this, you too, will make every effort to promote women in poker because we are here and growing every day. HighHeelsPokerTour will always do what we can to make sure everyone gets their shot at poker stardom(if that's what they want)and help bring women to the forefront of the poker community.

WSOP Finishes for HHPT Members

Well, I have just arrived home from the WSOP and wow the HHPT was on fire! Here is how it rolled out. It started with the Ladies Event 17 on June 8th. The HHPT had 2 members who made it to the final table. Debbie Mitchell went out in 6th place with a cash of over $40K and Marla Crumpler went out in 5th place with a cash of over $60K. You can view the final table on ESPN 360 and take a look at all the action. I of course can't forget myself, I didn't do so shabby either. I placed 63rd with a cash of over $3100. I'd like to take a moment to say thank you to Evelyn Ng, I had an opportunity to play with her at my table all day and I can say one thing, she is an "A" class player and a really nice person, I look forward to working with her on upcoming projects. Here is how some of our other members did:

Lisa Adams (Ranked 75th on the top 100 female poker players in the world) she came in 12th in the Ceasars Palace Deep Stack Event and Cashed over $9K

Lisa Teebadgy- Cashed in the WSOP $1500 shootout by winning her table in the first round for a cash of over $5K

Robin McCarty-Cashed in the WSOP Mega Satellite by coming in 3rd with a cash of over $5K as well.

All totaled, the women of the HHPT cashed for over $100K during the WSOP so far. If you are a friend of the HHPT and have cashed in a WSOP event or any other event, please send us an email so we can post your winnings on our myspace page and our website. lauren@highheelspokertour.com

The HHPT will be returning to the WSOP the week of July 1st to participate in the Johnny Chan $500K Tournament, so we look forward to seeing you there!
